“Touching the Game: The Story of the Cape Cod Baseball League”

Palumbo at bat

There is no amateur baseball league more prestigious and more storied than the Cape Cod Baseball League. Now for the first time, the story of the league is told in a feature-length documentary complete with interviews from current and past players, coaches, fans and others who make Cape Cod the place to be for a truly unique summer experience. The documentary crew spent an entire summer immersed in the Cape League and Cape life. The result is a unique view of the transition from college baseball player to professional player.

Each summer the best collegiate players in the country are invited to test themselves with wood bats and to impress the Big League scouts. As close as many of them are to becoming stars, on the Cape they’re just humble young men, embraced by their hosts as family, and accessible to all in the community.

Orleans Baseball Field

There are currently over two hundred active Major League baseball players that have spent time in the Cape League, many of whom appear in this film. The Cape Cod Baseball League is baseball in its purest form. This film is not only for those who love baseball, but also for anyone who wants to know what it’s like to spend time on the Cape, “Touching the Game.”
