Touching the Game, Alaska made it’s Anchorage premiere last Thursday night to a crowd of over 230 people at the Bear Tooth Theatre. Director Jim Carroll was on hand for the event and received many thanks and praises for the film. Anchorage is the heart of baseball in Alaska with two teams in the Alaska Baseball League. A third team in Palmer is only an hour away. The energy of the crowd was upbeat not only for the film, but for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots who were still competing in the National Baseball Congress tournament in Wichita, KS, one of four teams left. Attending the screening were representatives from all three area teams as well as Vicky Boucher, the wife of the late Red Boucher, the founder of modern day baseball in Alaska. Red passed away in June, the same day that Touching the Game, Alaska made it’s premiere in Fairbanks. A great time was had by all at the Bear Tooth! Plans are now under way for a screening in Palmer, AK, as well as possibly a few East Coast screenings, and don’t forget, you can pre-order the 2-disc DVD of Touching the Game, Alaska here.
