More players from Cape Cod film make it to the show!

We closely follow the careers of the players we met in 2003 and who appeared in Touching The Game, The Story of The Cape Cod Baseball League.  Here’s an update from the 2008 season.  Probably the most successful jump to the majors came from pitcher David Purcey.  The former Orleans Cardinals lefty has all but cemented himself in the Toronto Blue Jays starting rotation over the past couple months.  If you recall from the film, we spent some time with Purcey while he was working his summer job at the CVS in Orleans.  Just think, we knew him when.  Purcey’s Cardinal teammate Brandon Boggs has also made it to the bigs with The Texas Rangers. Primarily a 4th outfielder, Boggs has been up most of the year.  Wareham’s Andy Laroche, as many know, was involved in the big Manny Ramirez/Jason Bay trade.  He is now the regular 3rd baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing in the same infield as his older brother Adam.  Matt Macri is a September call-up with the Minnesota Twins.  Macri, the former Brewster Whitecap, also saw action earlier in the season with the Twins.  And finally, Garrett Mock who provided some good humor in Touching The Game at the Yarmouth-Dennis youth clinic has been pitching most of the season with the Washington Nationals.  Congrats to all!  Of course staying in the show is often just as difficult as making it to the show.  Injuries put a damper on some of the Touching The Game players who had made it in 2007.  Former Hyannis Mets players Sam Fuld and Donny Lucy along with Bourne’s Justin Maxwell all had limited seasons in either AA or AAA due to injuries.  Check out our updated “Where Are They Now?” page for a complete list of all the players from our film.
