One of the great things about being a fan of the Cape Cod Baseball League is following former players as they make their way to the Major Leagues. We filmed Touching The Game, The Story of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2003. It’s now four years later, and some of the players we followed have made it to the show. In April, Wareham’s Andy Laroche was up with the Dodgers for a month, and now with rosters expanded, is back in LA. Two other players appearing in Touching The Game are former Stanford stars Sam Fuld and Don Lucy. Both players played for Hyannis in the CCBL, and both were called up to the majors on the same day, Fuld to the Chicago Cubs, and Lucy to the Chicago White Sox. With expanded rosters, teams often like to give their top prospects a chance to see what the big leagues are all about. Such was the case with former Bourne Brave Justin Maxwell. The University of Maryland outfielder was called up by the Washington Nationals. Not expecting to play, Justin did get into a game last week against the Florida Marlins and hit a pinch-hit grand slam in his first ML at-bat! Justin is featured prominently in Touching The Game.
